Risen From the Dead

By Matthew Kalliman
I Corinthians 15:20-22; The Four Gospels; Acts 1:1-8
A Risen From the Dead Narrative
Oh, the women took the spices
and the ointments they had made
And they brought them to the sepulcher
       where Jesus had been laid
They had come to anoint His body
       but they quickly found instead
Jesus Christ was risen from the dead!

Now, an angel came from heaven
and had rolled the stone away
So the women walked inside the tomb
       and trembled with dismay
For they couldn’t find His body
       and the shining angel said,
“Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, from the dead,
Jesus Christ is risen from the dead!"

CHORUS
Jesus Christ is risen from the dead
So all of us can follow where He’s led
For every human being a resurrection lies ahead
’Cause Jesus Christ is risen from the dead!

When Jesus first appeared
       He spoke to Mary Magdalene
She ran to His disciples
and she told them what she’d seen
But they disbelieved her story
and they doubted what she’d said
That Jesus Christ was risen from the dead!

Ah, but John and Peter quickly rose
       and ran unto the tomb
They paused before the entrance
       they peered into the gloom
They found the linen wrapping
from His body and His head
But Jesus Christ was risen from the dead, from the dead--
Jesus Christ was risen from the dead!

CHORUS

Now, later that same day
two men were walking down the road
When a man they didn’t recognize
did join them as they strode
They walked along together
       to a village up ahead
With Jesus, who was risen from the dead!

They told Him they were sad
       because the Lord was crucified
Then He opened up their minds
       to what the Scriptures prophesied
He shared with them a meal
He ate with them some bread
And showed them He was risen from the dead, from the dead--
Jesus Christ was risen from the dead!

CHORUS

Now, Thomas was a doubting man
       who still would not believe
He could not be persuaded
       he refused to be naive
Till the day he touched the nail wounds
and pierce marks that had bled
Of Jesus, who was risen from the dead

He was seen by His disciples
He was with them forty days
And by many proofs infallible
they knew that He was raised
Then He sent them forth to tell the world
and soon the news did spread
That Jesus Christ was risen from the dead, from the dead--
Jesus Christ was risen from the dead!

CHORUS
